Google Updates & Penalties with Barry Schwartz

< 1 min read

Google’s Update Then and Now

Jim Boykin, Founder and CEO of Internet Marketing Ninjas, and Ann Smarty, IMN’s analyst, are joined by Barry Schwartz to talk about Google’s updates and penalties, and how to recover your site once you’ve been effected.

Barry Schwartz is the CEO of RustyBrick, a New York Web service firm specializing in customized online technology that helps companies decrease costs and increase sales. Barry blogs on SEO over at Search Engine Roundtable and Search Engine Land.

These days it is hard – if possible at all – to identify exactly why site lost rankings. You need to work on everything to improve content, usability, focus, backlinks, expertise, etc.

Everything has to be worked on.

These days, if a site seems to have been impacted, it’s never a single fix. You need to improve everything.

It is not possible to identify a common patterns behind an update any more.

It is hard to tell clients, “You may have done nothing wrong” but you still need to work on your site to improve it.

After each updates there is often collateral damage, but the good news is Google often fixes those mistakes within the following update.
