Three marketing experts discuss auditing and fixing your backlink profile in a Backlink Audit

Backlink audit is one of the most complicated SEO tasks these days.

How do you know what is a good link and what is a bad link?

To discuss a backlink audit, Jim Boykin, CEO of Internet Marketing Ninjas, invited Bill Hartzer, a blogger, SEO, and marketer who started coding HTML websites back in the mid 1990s and has been an SEO expert for more than two decades.


One of the biggest red flags pointing us to “bad” links is anchor text.

Exact-match anchor text (i.e. backlinks that have exact keywords as an anchor text) usually signals of a poor backlink profile that needs fixing, especially if there are a lot of backlinks with the same SEO-driven anchor text.

To fix a backlink profile:

  • Those links need to be removed or disavowed
  • New trusted links need to be built. These are branded links as well as links that reference high-quality content on your site.
