Google Penguin & Panda

Have You Been Hit by a Google Penguin or Panda Update?

If you are unsure if you were hit by Penguin or Panda, we strongly suggest reviewing your analytics for Google organic traffic over time; if a major drop in traffic occurs, get a close up of that date, and see if it aligns with any of the Google Penguin updates or Google Panda updates listed below. If you received an unnatural links or artificial links notice from Google that they have detected that some of your site’s pages may be using techniques that are outside Google’s Webmaster Guidelines, we recommend a Penguin Analysis to help identify the unnatural links pointing to your site.

Original Penguin Update April 24th, 2012
Penguin 1.1 Update May 25, 2012

If you have been affected by The Google Penguin Update, you can see a dip in your Google organic traffic on one of the dates listed above.

The causes of Penguin are almost always related to your backlinks. To be fixed, your backlinks must be recorded, organized, analyzed, and a plan of action must be made to "fix" as many of the site’s issues that could be causing the Google Penguin update to lower your rankings.

Our SEO team will carefully analyze your backlinks using data extracted from SEO Moz's Open Site Explorer, Majestic's Index, and Ahrefs's index. We have the full API for all three of these sources, and combine the information to generate the most comprehensive list of backlinks.

We then analyze several aspects of those links including:

From there we look for patterns, networks, and neighborhoods. We identify blog links, forum links, article links, paid links, partner links, scraper links, natural links, unnatural links and every other type of link that your site may have. For each type of backlink we show an example with notes, with the goal of identifying the "problem links" which may cause your site to be affected by the Google Penguin Update.

We then formulate the links which we feel should be removed. We also understand that some links (i.e. bulk links) are going to be harder to have removed, and many may be impossible to remove. Some links may be moved to other pages, and some link text may also be able to be changed, and some links should be actively removed.

We understand that removing backlinks means that your site may not rank as high as it once did for the short tail phrases. The solution to that lies in better optimizing your current pages; making sure you're taking advantage of all the pages/phrases your competitors are targeting, and only adding new pages that are of a high enough quality to earn trusted backlinks. To address these opportunities, we will provide you with an On-Page Optimization Report and Competitor Report, free of charge; so that you can get a jump on content-related action items that will help the site to achieve more traffic.

I’ve Been Hit by Panda, Now What?

The solution almost always involves working with three major areas:

  1. The content on your website
  2. The internal linking structure of your site,
  3. The "user experience" on your site.

To help identify the areas that need to be addressed, our SEO reporting team runs and analyzes several different detailed reports on your website. We then, based on our knowledge and experience, provide you with a list of action items that we recommend you complete.

We Provide Google Panda Update Solutions!

Internet Marketing Ninjas’ CEO, Jim Boykin has written extensively on the Google Panda Updates and provided valuable insight and analysis to assist webmasters in navigating these updates and how they can improve their online presence. Here is a little compilation of some of Jim's blog posts about Panda from our own site.

Jim has spoken about Google's Panda Updates at several major industry conferences since early 2011. He will also be speaking about Panda at Search Exchange (July 2012), Search Engine Strategies (August 2012), and Pubcon (October 2012).

Jim’s knowledge and understanding of Panda have largely contributed to how Internet Marketing Ninjas advises clients regarding issues with Google updates. We offer unique and effective solutions to best address and correct client issues that may have resulted from any one of these updates. Having analyzed both the various causes and solutions related to Panda, we are confident that we can help you recover and prosper in a post-Panda world.

How Long You Could Be "Penalized"

Panda is a complicated update with many different facets to be explored and analyzed. By running and extensively analyzing multiple reports, and then thinking like Google, we are able to generate many possible solutions and implement these solutions to send better signals to Google. After solutions have been implemented, your site can be reanalyzed. Please bear in mind that filing a reinclusion request or a reconsideration request will not have any effect on the Panda "penalty."

Getting out of Panda is not easy. In February of 2012, Barry Schwartz posted the results of his survey from SERoundtable asking if how many people have had recovered from Panda, and the scary thing is that a full year after Panda started, only 13% of the sites recovered; and this is from a poll of SEO's who "know the game"!

This is not something to be taken lightly and is not something that you're just going to fix with a few simple things (most likely). This is a matter of finding the "cancers" of your website content and fixing it or cutting it out. It's a matter of making sure that your visitors that come from Google have a great user experience.

Our Panda recovery rate is much higher than the industry standard, and we have several clients who have not only recovered, but are at record traffic levels. The nice thing about all our tips is that the more you can implement, the better your site will be for users, engines, and conversions.

This also include a 1 hour review phone call with an expert SEO Ninja.

Reports will be completed within 30 days of payment.

Please Note: The act of contacting other sites to have links removed is NOT included in this analysis and recommendations; however, if you wish to have us work to remove links from other sites, the cost is $3000 minimum for 10 hours of work on this link removal service. There is no number of links removed guaranteed with this; we will, however, report back to you on everything we did during these hours.

Analyzing backlinks is not something to be taken lightly; choosing which links to "keep" and which links to "remove" can make or break your future rankings and traffic from Google. If you remove all your backlinks, you're not going to rank for anything, even if you do "get out" from Penguin. If you don't remove/edit enough of your backlinks, you'll never get out of Penguin. It's a balance of doing enough to send different signals to Google, so that the site is reanalyzed, and ideally, "released". Your future Google traffic depends on what you do today. Before you start a reinclusion request or reconsideration request, let us help. We'll use our knowledge, tools, and expertise to get your website back in the game.
