Backlink & Anchor Text SEO Tool Updated – Ninja Style.

Thursday, September 20th, 2007

Our backlink anchor text tool was semi-broke for a while there, but today we got the new bugs worked out. I also figured that so long as we were doing work on that tool that I might as well add some updates to the tool.

Here is what the new We Build Pages Backlink Text Analysis tool does:

You enter in your root url (not a subpage, but a homepage).

This tool finds about 1000 backlinks to your site.

This tool then finds the link text linking to your site from each of those pages, and gives you a report.
(This step takes ~15 minutes….I’d recommend minimizing that window, and returning later to view results).

When the above report is finished, it then generates 3 more reports for you:

The Anchor Text Summary Report
(shows how often phrases are used to link to your site)

The Ninja Choice Summary Report
(we use our secret method of removing links from the original report that are flagged as "possible worthless links" (scrapers, etc)
(This is what I’d use to analyze backlink text)

Then a Ninja Word Summary
(how often each individual word is used to link to your site).

We used this tool on a site we’re considering buying today and found some great areas that we could focus on with that site.

Hope you enjoy our backlink text report tool…..stay tuned for the 301 Finder Tool coming soon! (enter in a url and it will tell you what other sites are 301′d there, and how many backlinks those sites had, and how old the sites are…cool eh?)

I hope you like!
Cheers!

I know for a few weeks we hit some bumps with some of our SEO tools, but most should be working pretty smooth now, and several got little updates as well (you’ll have to check them out to see the new changes (too many little edits to list)).

The only tool that sometimes gets stopped is the top 10 analysis tool, and if it happens just refresh the page and run again and it should work fine.

New SEO Tool – Top Ten Analysis SEO Tool – Free

Friday, November 10th, 2006

I’ve been a busy bee here the past few weeks designing and rewriting webuildpages.com, updating the SEO Tools, and training new Link Ninjas.  We’re planning the new release of webuildpages.com next Friday.

But I thought that today I’d release some new improvements to the ole Cool SEO Tool. It’s also be renamed The Top Ten Analysis SEO Tool.

It’s an easy tool to use. Simply enter in a url and a keyword phrase.

The results will show:
The top 10 sites in google for that phrase, compared to your site.
It will also show how those top 10 sites rank in Yahoo and MSN.
It will show the number of pages those sites have indexed in Yahoo
It will show the backlinks to the page that ranks in the top 10 (Yahoo)
It will show the total backlinks to that domain (Yahoo)
It will show how many .edu’s are linking to each domain
It will show the Alexa ranking (rounded numbers)
It includes a link to Google’s Related Pages for that site (why sites with less backlinks rank higher)
Shows Google’s Allinanchor Rank
Shows the Age of the URL from the whois
Shows the Age from the wayback machine
Show how often the exact keyword phrase is found on the page

And shows all this in a nice table.

Since we’re now using API’s, this tool will only work for about 1000 searches per day…so if it gets maxed any day, try again the next day.

Enjoy The Top 10 Analysis SEO Tool!

…No Baby yet (Due the 16th).

Blog Marketing and SEO WordPress Plugins

Thursday, September 7th, 2006

Yesterday Graywolf did a great post where he lists all types of WordPress SEO Plugins.

I use a few of these, but there’s several more I should be using (and will be soon).

So long as I’m on the topic of SEO for Blogs I should mentions that back in January Mr Ploppy (AKA, Stuntdubl) did a great post on blog promotion tools. I’ve spent several hours exploring this post and submitting my blog to several of these places. If you’re a blogger seeking more traffic, this post is one to bookmark and to spend time on.

Thought I’d also share some of the stats for jimboykin.com (last 6 days (includes weekend and holiday)) in case anyone was wondering.

Jim Answers Questions – Keyword Research Tools

Saturday, September 2nd, 2006

Choosing Keywords – It’s all about who’s in the top 10.

In response to the second question on my "Ask Jim" blog post, Michael asks:

When considering keywords, does the order of the keywords matter to the search engines? If so… How do they matter? Should I pick an order and concentrate on that, or treat different orders as different keywords? For example, I type “search engine optimization” (without quotes) and get ~68,200,000 and then I do “optimization search engine” and get ~68,400,000. The same sites seem to appear in the top 10 but in a little different order. Another example might be “photography equipment nv” and “nv photography equipment”.

Does the order matter – yes.

Meaning…. if on your webpage you mention the exact phrase "Green Eggs and Ham" over and over, and on my page, I mention the exact phrase "Ham and Green Eggs", I should, in theory, rank higher for "Ham and Green Eggs" than you.

Hope that answers your question….so long as I’m on the topic of Keywords I might as well give more info on keyword selection.

The tool I mostly use is wordtracker (out of years of habit)….I also sometimes use keyword discovery, and sometimes I’ll pay with Aaron’s keyword tool (it’s a swiss army keyword tool).

Here’s a common misconception (in my eyes) that people make in keyword research:
If you play with keyword tools, sometimes these tools will give you results in KEI analysis order. To quote from wordtracker’s site:

The higher the KEI, the more popular your keywords are, and the less competition they have. Which means you have a better chance of getting to the top.

This is something I have to disagree with. When I’m doing keyword research I don’t look at how many search results there are for a phrase….to me it doesn’t matter if there’s 10 million results, or if there’s only 50 results….to me what matters is "What do the top 10 have going for them" and do I have a chance of getting into the top 10. And the tool I use to analyze that, I just happened to have built myself (We’ll I told my programmer what I wanted, and he built it) – the Cool SEO Tool.  Again. I don’t care if there 10 million sites for a phrase or 50 sites for a phrase…the whole game is "Can you get into the top 10". (Here’s more info on why that’s all that matters).

For years all I would focus on was the "Biggest" phrases (usually biggest 2-4 phrases) and that was it. Now though, I’m a big one for the "long tail"….and the longer the better…so now I actually do just a bit of keyword research and then write write write…the more writing the more of that long tail I’m going to pick up. Maybe if I did PPC I’d rely more on keyword research, but I don’t.

What are your keyword tips?

New Internet Marketing Tool – Common Backlinks.

Friday, April 21st, 2006

I should start by saying that I’m not positive I’ve got the original idea on this tool.

A few years ago I saw a tool that gave me an idea for a private tool that did a lot more. We’ve had this one private tool for 2 1/2 years, but I did some edits to it for a "public version"….now I’m wondering if what I’m left with is the tool I used for inspiration 2 1/2 years ago.  If you’ve seen a tool like this, let me know and I’ll remove this, or edit it so it’s different.

What this tool does:
you enter in 10 of your competitors (or your site, and 9 of your competitors) and then press "Go"

It then returns a list of sites that link to 2 or more of your competitors.

These are sites you might want to contact to request links from – this is part of the neighborhood you want to be in.

The tool would be better if it showed the exact pages where your links were, and also if the pages it lists are scraper pages that have no google value (our private tools does some of this). To find this out manually check yahoo for linkdomain:one-of-your-competitors.com site:result-site.com . This will show the page where one of the links is. Click on that page, check for google recent cache – if yes, then contact.
